On December 30, 2011, a Commission to review and provide recommendations on electoral boundaries was established after consultations across the province by a Select Committee of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.
The Commission can recommend up to 52 seats, the current number in the legislature, but could suggest fewer. The terms of reference for the Commission also state the number of electors in all electoral districts must be within plus or minus 25 per cent of the average number of electors per electoral district.
The Commission will hold public meetings across the province and must submit an interim report to the Attorney General by May 31, 2012 and its final report by August 31, 2012.
